International Day of Light 2019

International Day of Light 2019

ELI Beamlines laser centre will join the second International Day of Light, a global initiative that provides an annual focal point for the continued appreciation of light and the role it plays in science, culture and art, education, and sustainable development, and in fields as diverse as medicine, communications, and energy.

The International Day of Light (IDL) is celebrated on 16 May each year, the anniversary of the first successful operation of the laser in 1960 by physicist and engineer, Theodore Maiman. The IDL was proclaimed at the General Conference of UNESCO in November 2017 and the first celebration took place on 16 May 2018. We are proud to join this initiative again and will offer a unique program for visitors on 16 May 2019.
