Hedvika Kadlecová was awarded L’Oréal UNESCO prize for women in science
She runs halfmarathons and at the same time she investigates the processes in quantum vacuum. Hedvika Kadlecová who works in the ELI Beamlines Research Center in Dolní Břežany became one of the three winners of the prestigious award L’Oréal-UNESCO for women in science.
The prize is being awarded in the Czech republic for last 13 years and should support women’s scientific talents. Hedvika entered the competition at the instigation of her professor and recommends to the future scientists to study abroad and create an international net of contacts. In her project she investigates particle processes in vacuum.

The successful conclusion of D-STIR project celebrated with Final Conference in Romania
15 partners from 8 European countries (Romania, Slovakia, Hungary, Slovenia, Czech Republic, Germany, Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina) have successfully brought to an end D-STIR project, which has in the last two years worked on understanding and bridging the gap between the scientific community and society at large. Project addressed Danube framework for responsible research and innovation using Socio-Technical Integration Research and has connected technical experts with humanists in order to leverage maximal societal and business potential – i.e. implement RRI. As such D-STIR is extremely important for Danube innovation framework conditions, as innovation does account for socio-economic impact.

HPC cluster ECLIPSE reached 25 million CPU hours
ECLIPSE, a high-performance computing cluster, is currently achieving a significant milestone; it has surpassed 25 million computing hours. As one of the fundamental tools of theoretical research, ECLIPSE helps ELI Beamlines’ scientists with a detailed understanding of the processes involved in laser physics. The usage of the ECLIPSE cluster thus helps with the design of future experiments, scientific discoveries and their publications.

ELI Beamlines has sold a patent license abroad
Jaroslav Nejdl, the leader of the research team developing X-ray sources at ELI Beamlines, invented a unique concept how to characterize the XUV beam using a new instrument that combines profilometer and spectrometer function. "The invention is based on a new optical design that allows the beam intensity profile and its spectrum to be measured using a single detector. It simplifies the diagnostic setup considerably, as it was formerly consisting of a spectrometer and a profilometer, each with its detector, which is usually an X-ray camera for tens of thousands euros, ”says J. Nejdl.
