International Day of Women and Girls in Science

The 11th February was declared as the International Day of Women and Girls in Science by the United Nations General Assembly. It was set in order to achieve full and equal access and participation in science for women and girls, and further achieve gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls.

ISAC 2018

On December 3-4th, 2018 the International Scientific Advisory Committee (ISAC) meeting was held at the ELI Beamlines centre in Dolní Břežany. Thirteen eminent scientists and research facilities directors took part in this regular annual meeting. ISAC was provided by ELI Management and research program leaders with extensive reports on project completion, commissioning of key equipment, user strategy as well as long term facility development strategy.

The ELIMAIA user beamline opening ceremony

The ELIMAIA ion acceleration user beamline with its key system, the ELIMED ion beam transport and dosimetry section, was ceremonially launched today on 27th of November, 2018 in the ELI Beamlines research facility. The mission of ELIMAIA (ELI Multidisciplinary Applications of laser-Ion Acceleration) is to provide stable, fully characterized and tunable beams of particles accelerated by multi-PW lasers and to offer them to the user community for multidisciplinary applications, with the ultimate goal of demonstrating a compact approach of laser-driven ion acceleration for application in cancer therapy.

Three papers on laser-driven X-ray sources published recently

There were three papers published in last two months by the RP2 (laser-driven X-ray sources) of the ELI Beamlines project. The first one published in Optics Letters describes a new method of evaluation of duration of a partially coherent pulses generated by a plasma soft X-ray laser [1].

LXA workshop at ELI Beamlines

A workshop on laser-driven hard X-ray sources and their applications (LXA workshop) was held at ELI Beamlines on 12th October 2018. The event was jointly organized by ELI Beamlines, LOA (France), INRS (Canada) as a satellite meeting of the 16th International Conference on X-ray lasers.

A delegation of European ambassadors at ELI Beamlines

A delegation of European ambassadors and representatives of the EU Member States and Institutions visited the ELI Beamlines research centre today on 26th October 2018. After the introductory presented by Roman Hvězda, the manager of ELI Beamlines, and the Mayor of Dolní Břežany Věslav Michalík the delegation went to the laser and experimental halls. They were guided by ELI scientists: Pavel Bakule, the head of L1-Allegra laser system, Georg Korn, the leader of experimental programms, and Jaroslav Nejd, the head of Experimental Program 2.

The first experiment on generation of high-order harmonics with L1

At the beginning of September the laser team and the E1 experimental team reached an important milestone in ELI Beamlines technology integration. The first joint experiment on generation of high-order harmonics (HHG) in the HHG Beamline in E1 hall with L1-ALLEGRA laser driver was successfully performed.
